Dean Witz - Voice Teacher

Dean Witz has been a vocal instructor in the Coulee Region for the past 30 years. A native of Madison, Wisconsin, he received his Bachelor of Music degree in 1990 from Viterbo College, majoring in both Music Education and Vocal Performance. He completed his Master’s studies at DePaul University in Chicago in Voice, with an emphasis in both pedagogy and performance. Dean sang professionally for several years throughout the Midwest in both Opera and Music Theater before returning to the Onalaska/La Crosse area. Since his return, he has worked as a private vocal instructor and directed choirs for some area churches and schools. From 1999-2008, he worked as an adjunct vocal instructor at his alma mater, Viterbo University.


A licensed professional educator, Dean is currently the Vocal/Choral Director at Blair-Taylor MS/HS. Some of his past accomplishments include; 2nd place honors in the Wisconsin Chapter of NATS (National Association of Singers Auditions) in 1985, 1986 & 1987, winning first place honors in 1988 & 1989, and representing the North Central Region of NATS at the NATSSA National auditions in 1996! A 2-time winner of the District Metropolitan Opera Auditions in Minneapolis he has conducted Masterclasses in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa.


 A member of the Wisconsin Chapter of NATS since 1999, Dean has judged for the NATS Auditions on both the State and Regional levels. He has also judged many years for WSMA (Wisconsin School Music Association) Solo & Ensemble events, and the Regional Classical Singer Auditions.
