Pam Hughes - Violin Instructor

Pam Hughes has taught Suzuki violin lessons in Southwest Wisconsin for 14 years. Her Suzuki Violin Studio has consisted of approximately 20 students, mostly ranging in ages from 3 years to 18 years old. She teaches adult students as well.

In addition to learning classical music, Pam’s violin students also play fiddle and holiday music and have opportunities to perform with their peers in a “fiddle band” for square dances, and at holiday events and nursing homes. She also offers solo recitals, workshop experiences and opportunities for her students to perform and be evaluated in a non-competitive environment.

Pam has organized a local Federation Festival event through the National Federation of Music Clubs since 2021. Additionally, she ran a music booking business for weddings in the Wisconsin Dells area for 8 years where she also played as a violinist in various classical and Celtic ensembles. She is a member of both the Suzuki Association of Wisconsin and the Suzuki Association of America.

Pam began her music studies at the age of 5 years old on the piano and soon after, when she was 7, fell in love with the violin while attending a Suzuki Institute where Dr. Suzuki was teaching. She studied the violin with Linda Fiore in Pennsylvania for 10 years where she had opportunities on multiple occasions to play together in smalls groups with Dr. Suzuki.

After receiving a bachelors degree in Experiential Education, a professional certificate in Mediation and Conflict Resolution, and practicing professionally as a mediator in Vermont, Pam decided to make a career change and pursue her love for music and teaching.

Pam has completed extensive teacher training through the Suzuki Association of America. She started her studies with Pat D’Ercole through the long term teacher training program at the University of Steven’s Point and has studied with handfuls of other teachers ever since, including, but not limited to: Terrie Enfield, Alice Joy Lewis, Linda Fiore, Ed Kreitman, Teri Durbin, and James Hutchins. Pam considers herself to be a life-long learner and attends multiple continuing education trainings throughout the year.

Pam has a love for children and music, and a passion for teaching. Her hopes for her students are that they too will develop a love for music and gain confidence in themselves as they learn life skills and share their music with others.

When not teaching, Pam enjoys spending time being active in the outdoors with her family, friends and her her golden retriever puppy. She is excited to be joining the Reed Music Studio and working with students in the the Lacrosse area.
