Amy Baklund – Piano Instructor

A 2019 graduate of Viterbo University, Amy Baklund is no stranger to Reed Music Studios. She attributes her love of music and desire to teach to studio co-owner Rita Schuman, her teacher for 11 years. Having played piano since the age of 3, Amy pursued her musical passions throughout her schooling, graduating with a piano performance and pedagogy degree through Mary Ellen Haupert’s tutelage. Amy has been teaching at Reed since 2017 and plans to do so for years to come.
Amy mainly teaches young beginners, but she also holds a soft spot for older adults thus her gerontology minor. She enjoys teaching both young and young at heart. She began piano lessons at a very young age and participated in numerous school musical performances from elementary school through high school. Amy performed in the WMTA district and state level auditions for many years, and she was the first place winner of the WMTA High School Virtuoso competition her senior year of high school. She was also honored with the 2014 LAMTA Accompanist of the Year award. She is a member of WMTA, LAMTA, and MTNA.
In addition to teaching, Amy also accompanies La Crosse area musical festivals and competitions, churches, schools, and pit orchestras. She looks forward to taking on more students of all ages, levels, and abilities. Their learning informs her learning, and she hopes to continue fostering a love of music in every child she teaches.
