Supplies Needed for Lessons
For all students, music books and other materials will need to be purchased periodically.
Reed Music Studios keeps a supply of commonly used lesson books and other music accessories in stock for the convenience of our students, parents and teachers.
Your teacher will provide you with a written invoice for any needed books or materials that are sent home with your child.
Payments for music books or other accessories are to be made directly to Reed Music Studios . Please do not pay for your music books by writing the check to your teacher - your teacher should only receive payments for your lessons - not music or other fees.
Beginning piano students could need up to three or four books right away - usually a basic lesson book, a written notespeller or theory book , a solo or performance book and possibly a technique book (for building strength and coordination). Your instructor will select the books for your lessons and will have them set aside for you prior to your first lesson.
Transfer students may be able to make use of some of the music books they already have from working with their past instructor. But, most teachers will also have suggestions for new selections that they prefer the student use for their lessons.
Other materials that your instructor may recommend are: flashcards, a blank notebook for weekly practice instructions, a metronome, a book of blank staff paper and a music dictionary. Most of these materials can be purchased at the studio.
Students should designate a special "music lessons bag" to use to keep their materials organized and in one place. Lesson books should always be kept in the bag (except when they are being used for practice of course!) to make sure they don't get lost in your home and are ready to be taken to the lesson each week.
Specific titles of sheet music and classical repertoire can be special ordered as needed. Please allow one to two weeks for special orders.
