Francisco de la Rosa IV
Strings Instructor

Francisco was born in the Philippines. He began piano lessons at the age of four and violin at the age of six. After two years he began studies with Andrew Duckwall. During his nine years in Mr. Duckwall's studio Francisco performed with the Minnesota Youth Symphonies and Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies. As a member of these two groups he performed numerous side by side concerts with the Minnesota Orchestra. Francisco attended high school at St. Thomas Academy. For those four years he performed with the VISTA Orchestra. During that time he had the opportunity to perform at the Minnesota State Music Convention. Before he graduated from St. Thomas he managed to earn Regional and State honors on violin and guitar, as well as the National School Orchestra Award.

Continuing his musical education at The University of Wisconsin / La Crosse he performed as Concertmaster, Soloist, and Conductor. During the orchestras 1996 Western European Tour Francisco performed as the featured soloist for dignitaries such as Philip Sigon, then President of the National Assembly of France. The following May his string quartet toured as Musical Ambassadors of not only UW-L, but the city of La Crosse as well as the state of Wisconsin. This tour brought him to the Russian cities of Dubna and Moscow as well as the Belgium City of Amsterdam. In May of 2000 Francisco made his European conducting debut with the University's Chamber Symphony. Conducting concerts in the cities of Prague, Brno, Krakow, and Budapest.

Francisco has performed with the La Crosse Symphony for 8 years and won the position of Assistant Concertmaster for the 1997-1998 season. He has also been a part of Viterbo's Bright Star Season as well as numerous other performances in Wisconsin and Minnesota.

As an educator Francisco worked with the Community Project for Strings from 1997-2000. He was a violin coach for the La Crosse Youth Symphonies from 1994-1996. He also worked as a clinician for various middle school and high school string groups, most recently with Lincoln Middle school's 7th and 8th grade orchestra in the spring of 2001.
