Feng-Yi (Catherine) Lin began studying piano at age six and decided to become a piano teacher when she was ten. Ms. Lin received her Bachelor degree from Fu-Jen Catholic University in Taiwan with a major in piano and minor in voice. During four years of college, she won the first prize scholarship among her class three times in a row. Besides class work, she also accompanied for the Concert Choir and sang in the Ensemble Choir. To help pay for her tuition, she started giving individual piano lessons in her sophomore year. She gave lessons at her apartment, Yamaha School of Music, and Wu Mei-Yun Music Studios.
After college, Catherine continued her education at Pennsylvania State University where she studied with Dr. Timothy Shafer for her Master degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy. Soon, her talent earned her a teaching assistantship, covering all tuition and living expenses. She had full responsibility to teach individual and group lessons to music and non-music major undergraduates. In addition to teaching, she accompanied for the Concert Choir and other soloist, gave recitals and attended a Master class to play for Richard Goode.
Catherine had broad teaching experience with different ages and abilities for about ten years. After a few years as a full-time Mom, she is very excited to gradually get back to piano teaching.
